The A&M Consolidated High School Science Bowl team placed 7th out of 67 teams at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. May 1-6. The team consists of Alex Liu, Jeffrey Chen, Rajeev Kinra, Mengxiang Jiang, Omar Masud, and coach Kristen Jones.
Competition started out with the team winning 6 of 7 matches in the round-robin competition to advance to the 16 team double-elimination competition. In double elimination, A&M defeated Mountain View HS of Vancouver, Washington, lost to Mira Loma HS from Sacramento, California, defeated Amarillo HS and was eliminated by Fairview High School of Boulder, Colorado. They received $1000 for the science department and a plaque.
Students toured the national monuments, spent a day at the Smithsonian museums, heard notable scientific experts speak, and attended a congressional reception where they met with Rep. Chet Edwards. They also met the Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman. The National Science Bowl is sponsored by the US Department of Energy. The A&M Consolidated team won the trip to the national competition by winning the Regional Science Bowl at Texas A&M University. This is the 5th time that A&M Consolidated has placed in the top 7 nationally

The U.S. Department of Energy and its Science Bowl partners are dedicated to achieving the National Education goals. The National Science Bowl® was created to offer students who excel in math and science, and the teachers who have prepared them, a forum to receive national recognition for their talent and hard work.
The National Science Bowl® and its regional competitions are math and science competitions among teams of high school students (grades 9-12) throughout the country. Texas A&M University is one of 61 host sites for this year's Science Bowl regional competitions. The program is designed to encourage students and teachers to achieve educational excellence in the sciences. The fast-paced question-and-answer categories are astronomy, biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, current events in the scientific community, computer, earth and general sciences.
Travel expenses and transportation to and from Texas A&M University will not be provided nor paid for by the Regional Science Bowl. Please park in Parking Area 5, directly adjacent to the Blocker Building. You can get access to PA 5 from University Drive.
The Texas A&M Regional Science Bowl champions win an expense-paid trip to compete for the national title in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl®. Trophies are also awarded to the top 4 teams at the Texas A&M Regional Science Bowl.
At the nationals, 18 of the 61 teams in each division earn a monetary prize for their school.
Code of Ethics The goal of competition is to give one's best effort while displaying honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. Students, coaches, parents and guests are expected to display courtesy and respect toward Science Bowl officials, other teams, and guests of the Regional Science Bowl. Failure to show honesty and/or courtesy by a participant, coach or guest of the team may result in the disqualification of the team.
Educational Outreach and Women's Programs realizes that in any competition differences of opinion about the judges interpretations may occur. It is the policy of the Outreach Programs to support the interpretations and final decisions of the judges panel.
