Texas Junior Science and Humanities Symposium

January 28—30, 2010 ~ Texas A&M University

Online Nomination System will CLOSE at 9:00 a.m., November 16, 2009*
*ALL required submissions (abstract, bio, and photo) MUST be submitted by this deadline or nominee will NOT be considered for oral presentation.

High school teachers/adult sponsors are invited to nominate up to five students from each school who have conducted original research. No more than five nominations per school will be accepted.

Nominees are to submit an abstract of their original research prepared in accordance with the guidelines. A panel of judges will select the top 8 abstracts in each category for oral presentations and 10 per division for poster presentations. Remaining nominations will be invited as student observers to the symposium.

Online Nomination System

Be prepared PRIOR to beginning the nomination process:

Please be prepared PRIOR to entering the on-line nomination system. During the online nomination system, you will need to provide the following information and forms - please have those items prepared for submission at time of entry:

  • Nominee's name, gender, grade, address, city, zip, email, t-shirt size, research title, and research discipline (category)
  • Electronic (WORD formatted according to guidelines) abstract to submit upon nomination.
  • Electronic (WORD formatted according to guidelines) biographical sketch to submit upon nomination.
  • Electronic photo (jpeg formatted according to guidelines) to submit upon nomination.

To assist in gathering this information - you may wish to print the nominee worksheet.

Abstract
The abstract guidelines are available to help you write and submit your abstract. Please follow the abstract guidelines closely.
Biographical Sketch & Photo

Each nominee (except observer) must submit a short biographical sketch AND a recent photograph. Please submit the biographical information (Word format) and photo (jpeg format) electronically at the time of nomination.

The following forms are due after invitation to participate and

with payment of $40 per each attendee and per each sponsor
Intention to Participate Form/Release Form

This must be returned to accept your invitation to participate.
Each student must submit one after having it completed by his/her parents.

Sponsor Release Form
Each sponsor must submit a form for him/herself.
The research paper is due NO LATER THAN January 11, 2010

These guidelines are available to help you organize your research paper. Each participant presenting a paper must submit a PDF of his/her research paper.  Make sure you include the Outside Assistance and Supervising Scientist Forms if needed. Make sure the research paper has a cover sheet.

Note: poster presenters are not required to submit a research paper.

All paper presentations should be powerpoint presentations. LCD projectors are supplied in each presentation room - presenters should provide their own laptop. Oral Presentations are 12 minutes. Oral presenters are allowed an additional 2 minutes for set-up of presentation and a maximum of 6 minutes for questions from the judges.
***POSTER PRESENTERS SHOULD FOLLOW THE SAME PRESENTATION GUIDELINES AND RULES AS THE ISEF FAIR.
