The speakers for this years event were carefully pre-selected for this competition by scientific research faculty at Texas A&M University. 52 students were nominated for this years competition, and 18 presented papers.

Five of the eight finalists receive an expense-paid trip to the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.
4th and 5th places each received a medallion, and $100 monetary award presented in their names to their schools to purchase books, supplies, equipment, or materials to benefit the science classroom or department. These awards are generously sponsored by the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists.

This individual is also invited to present her research at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and compete for additional scholarships.

The first place winner received a $2,000 undergraduate, tuition-based scholarship, sponsored by the US Army, Navy and Air Force. She is also invited to present his paper at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and compete for additional scholarships. The winner also receives a medallion and a $500 monetary award presented in their names to their schools to purchase books, supplies, equipment, or materials to benefit the science classroom or department. This award is generously sponsored by the Texas Transportation Institute.
